Joan Porter MacIver,

I worked for thirteen years as BISI’s Administrator, London Manager and was Co-ordinator of the ‘Gertrude Bell and Iraq – A Life and Legacy conference and since 2014 I have been a BISI Trustee. I have a deep respect for the charitable aims of the institute and would be pleased to continue volunteering my time to ensure BISI achieves its future ambitions. Currently, I am also working with the Trustees of the Friends of Basrah Museum as the UK coordinator of their project funded by a grant from the Cultural Protection Fund to complete the installation of the three remaining gallery spaces of the new Basrah Museum and to work on developing specialised training opportunities for its staff.

With regards to my academic background and interests, I am a graduate of Harvard University. I have spent many years of my life living in the Middle East and have maintained an active interest in archaeology, including being the Secretary of the Bahrain Historical and Archaeological Society in the early 1980s.
