Dr Ali A. Allawi on Faisal I, Gertrude Bell and Sat'i al-Husri: The Politics of Archaeology in Iraq

Dr Ali A. Allawi presented this lecture on the evolution of Iraq's identity as a modern state and the role of archaeology in this process during the Faisalian era (1921-1933). Dr Allawi's comprehensive political biography of Faisal I was published in spring 2013. The biography is set against the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the formation of the modern state system in the Middle East and Iraq.
