University and Museum Engagement Grants

BISI offers grants to support public or academic engagement events that focus on the lands and peoples of Iraq. Topics may cover any time period from prehistory to the present.  In addition, a number of grants will be made available to support travel to university students to deliver papers at specific academic conferences. Details will be announced on the BISI website and via social media.

Amount available:

Up to a total of £1,000 – although more substantial awards may exceptionally be made

Eligibility

Be employed by, or have an official connection (e.g. registered student) with, a UK Higher Education Institution or heritage organization (e.g. museum, library, archive, heritage site). 

Details

Funding Available 

BISI can only fund direct costs such as equipment, travel expenses, normally up to a total of £1,000 – although more substantial awards may exceptionally be made. Grants may not be used to support institutional overheads, salary costs, PhD studentships, or other normal living costs.

Under this scheme, applicants should normally be employed by, or have an official connection (e.g. registered student) with, a UK Higher Education Institution or heritage organization (e.g. museum, library, archive, heritage site). Proof of the applicant’s affiliation may be requested. 

Application Procedure

Please complete a University & Museum Engagement Grant application form which should be emailed to [email protected] in time for one of the deadlines. Decisions will be announced once they have been confirmed at a BISI Council following the deadline (February, May or November). 

References

One letter of recommendation must be submitted to accompany each application. 

Report

Following the event or travel, the award-holder should submit a short report (100-200 words) for inclusion in BISI’s Annual Newsletter and/or website.

BISI works to advance research and public education about Iraq in all of the arts, humanities and social sciences subjects, and enables exchange and collaboration between UK and Iraqi academics. Our grants and scholarships have helped the fund the following research projects.
