The British Institute for the Study of Iraq and the Friends of Basrah Museum had great pleasure in organising a reception celebrating the completion of the new Basrah Museum.

The British Institute for the Study of Iraq and the Friends of Basrah Museum had great pleasure in organising a reception celebrating the completion of the new  Basrah Museum.

On Tuesday 21 January 2020

The Basrah Museum project was funded by the UK’s Cultural Protection Fund, managed by the British Council. The initial CPF grant was awarded in December 2016 and the project work was completed in January 2020. The British Institute for the Study of Iraq are donating their library to the Basrah Museum Library.

Speakers on the evening included:

  • Dr John Curtis OBE FBA (BISI President & FOBM Chairman)
  • Sir Terence Clark KBE CMG CVO (BISI Patron & Former FOBM Chairman)
  • H.E. Ambassador Mohammad Jaafar Al-Sadr (Iraq Ambassador to the UK)
  • Sir Barney White Spunner
  • Mr Zaid Elyaseri (Country Manager, BP Iraq)
  • Mr Stephen Stenning (Head of Arts & Society, British Council)
  • Mrs Joan Porter MacIver (BISI Vice-Chair)
