The Taqasim Music School held a public event on the musical traditions of the Oud and the Iraqi Maqam, an urban vocal repertoire said to have roots datable to the 10th century. The event took place at St Ethelburga’s in London and combined introductory talks and recitals, offering a varied representation of the Iraqi Maqam together with a selection of folk songs.

Testimonial: In organising this concert, not only have we reached a wider visibility for the educational activities of Taqasim Music School, but we also have shown an aspect of Iraqi culture which is mostly unknown despite its deep beauty and long history,’ Ahmed Mukhtar and Francesco Iannuzzelli, Taqasim Music School
