Celebrating the arrival of Ivories from Nimrud (1949-1963) VII, 1 & 2 Ivories from Rooms SW11/12 and T10 Fort Shalmaneser
By Ali Khadr
This evening celebrated the arrival of Ivories from Nimrud (1949-1963) VII, 1 & 2 Ivories from Rooms SW11/12 and T10 Fort Shalmaneser by Georgina Herrmann and Stuart Laidlaw. The authors talked about the process of creating the book, which took seven years, and the discoveries they have made about the ivories collection from Fort Shalmaneser. In his introduction to the event, Dr John Curtis praised the authors for their work to bring the ivories into the public domain:
‘These volumes put the ivories into their artistic, historic, social and economic contexts. They represent scholarship of the the very highest level and work of this kind is the very bedrock of ancient Near Eastern Studies.’
