Maysoon Al Damluji on ‘The De-Baathification of Art in Baghdad’

This webinar will explore and discuss the removal of public monuments and art after the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the impact that this has had on the emerging political identity of Iraq.
Maysoon Al Damluji is a liberal Iraqi politician who studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and was a practicing architect until 2003. Maysoon served as Iraqi Deputy Minister of Culture (2003 – 2006), as Member of the Iraqi Parliament for 3 terms (2006 – 2018), and as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Culture and Media. She also served as Adviser of Culture to the President of Iraq, H.E. Barham Salih (2019 – 2022). Maysoon now dedicates much of her time and focus on researching cultural issues and women’s rights in Iraq.
